68% of GDP Is Due to Personal Consumption

The chart below breaks down GDP into its four main components – personal consumption, government spending, private investment and net imports/exports. As of June 30, personal consumption accounted for 68% of GDP. While not shown on the chart, this category is largely dominated by services rather than goods.

Interestingly, personal consumption continues to make up a larger portion of GDP as time progresses. Prior to the 1990s it typically only made up 60% of GDP.
